Today the Ministry of Justice introduces the home page about corruption www.korruptsioon.ee.

The newly created page gives information about what corruption is and how to avoid corruptive relationships. The page also contains many practical instructions both for citizens and officials how to act after discovering corruption and in situations prone to corruption.

“I think that Estonian people do not know much about corruption,” Ken-Marti Vaher, the Minister of Justice said. “The newly developed homepage will assist every citizen of Estonia who want to know more about corruption and avoid situations prone to corruption.”

The last inquiry on corruption shows that many people do not know where to report on corruption and knowledge of people about what actions may be considered corruptive is poor. For example, one third of participants in the inquiry did not think that corruption would be a situation where a person is recruited due to his/her personal relationship with a superior official. 30% of undertakers did not think that corruption would be a situation where public contract is given to the most optimum tenderer that is a relative of an official. In both cases, this concerns a criminal action by the law.

The homepage also gives information about different researches on corruption, and also about how corruption is fought against in Estonia and in the world, which legislative acts and strategies regulate the subject of corruption and which studies have been made concerning corruption. The ratings of Estonia according to the Group of States Against Corruption GRECO at the European Council are also presented on the page.
