Minister of Justice assessed the meeting with coalition partners as emotional

“Questions were predictably emotional but at the same time it was good to see that overreaction to this subject was recognized,” the Minister of Justice Ken-Marti Vaher commented today’s meeting with members of the Parliament fractions of Reform Party and Rahvaliit.

Among the rest, the Minister of Justice gave a package of informative material to the coalition partners to disprove a suspicion and accusations, and to rationally explain activities of law-enforcement institutions in detection of narcotics and corruption crimes. “We must switch from talking to acting in fighting against “white-collar” narcotics and corruption crimes and put criminal institutions into operation to attain the objective. This is the only reason why the excessively discussed plan was created,” he emphasised.

“I believe that if people wanted to understand the essence of the fight against corruption and drug addiction, they definitely did,” the Minister of Justice concluded the meeting. “At the same time it feels that those whose grounds were political and who had shaped their opinion before asking and listening explanations are not satisfied with any rational arguments.”

According to the Minister of Justice the members of Reform Party unfortunately did not explain why Reform Party did not initiate a similar discussion when an analogous plan was officially approved and accomplished by the Customs Board in the term of office of the Minister of Finance Siim Kallas.
