Ministry of Justice to support crime prevention projects with half a million kroons

The Ministry of Justice will announce the second crime prevention project competition this year. This time 550,000 kroons is awarded as support and the maximum amount per project will be 100,000 kroons.
Eligible project applications are those related to prevention of juvenile delinquency and drug abuse among young people as well as projects aimed at conducting social programmes among young people who have been directed to Juvenile Committees. Also, financing may be granted to projects which focus on promoting activities or equipment hindering the commission of criminal offences against property or public offences or on dissemination of the respective expertise. Projects aimed at reintegration of persons who have served a prison sentence or another criminal punishment into society will be financed as well.
Non-profit associations, foundations and sole proprietors registered in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Estonia can apply for support. Support will not be allocated to state-funded foundations and non-profit associations engaged in crime prevention. The project for which support is applied must commence this year and the self-financing or non-state co-financing of the project must amount to no less than 30% of the project budget.
The Ministry of Justice is expecting project applications by 1 September 2005. The application must be drawn up in Estonian in two copies and submitted at Tõnismägi 5a, 15191 Tallinn in a sealed envelope bearing the label Kuriteoennetuse projekt (Crime prevention project). The Project Evaluation Committee will make the decision about the beneficiaries within one month.
The support will be allocated on the basis of the decision of the Committee formed by the Minister of Justice and upon decision-making primarily the effectiveness and feasibility of the project will be taken into account. The Committee will make a decision by 1 October.
