Lang and Raidla: Estonia will soon be Europe’s most business-friendly country

The September issue of the reputable
European Lawyer magazine features an
article by current and former Ministers of Justice Rein Lang
and Jüri Raidla, who state that thanks to the new Entrepreneur’s Law, Estonia could soon be compared to
the US state of Delaware for its enterprise-friendly business environment.
“The Delaware
phenomenon lies in the fact that it has the United
States’ most business-friendly legal
environment,” Minister Lang explained. “The new Entrepreneur’s Law developed in Estonia
is a step in the direction of Estonia
becoming the most favourable business environment in Europe
– a kind of European Delaware – where small and
medium-sized companies and larger corporations alike look to develop their
operations.”
“The role of
the legal environment in influencing competitiveness is difficult to
overestimate,” said former Minister of Justice and director of the Raidla &
Partners law office Jüri Raidla. “The country
that shapes the most business-friendly legal environment will attract the most
new companies and reap the greatest benefits in terms of tax revenue and jobs
created.”
Both Lang and
Raidla feel that the creation of an attractive business environment is the key
to success, so that entrepreneurs from Europe and
elsewhere around the world think about transferring their registered address or
at least some of their areas of operations to Estonia.
The policy paper on Business Operators’ Rights has been implemented with this
very goal in mind, to improve the relation for entrepreneurs between income and
expenses related to moving to the country.
