The land registry departments of county courts and the Tallinn City Court maintain a land register and a marital property register.

The land register is a register of real rights in immovable property. Immovables (registered immovables) comprise plots of land, apartment ownerships and rights of superficies (incl. rights of superficies in apartments). Ownership relations and other real rights (mortgages, servitudes, notations concerning lease or prohibition, etc.) relating to the registered immovable are entered in the land register in respect of an immovable.

Land registry departments of the courts also maintain the marital property register. As a rule, the property acquired by spouses during the marriage is the joint property of the spouses, unless a different entry has been made in the marital property register.

The Tallinn City Court, in addition to the land registry department and registration department, also maintains the succession register (register of wills and succession matters).

The register part of the land register and the data of the marital property register may be accessed electronically through the online inquiry system of the land register or the list of marital property register maintained by the Ministry of Justice Centre of Registers. However, such data still does not have a legal effect.
