Andres Anvelt

Andres Anvelt is the Minister of the Justice of the Republic of Estonia since March 26, 2014. He belongs to the Social Democratic Party.

In 2011–2014, Andres Anvelt was a member of the 12th Riigikogu. He was the chairman of the anti-corruption select committee of Riigikogu and belonged to the Committee of Inquiry of VEB Fund, the Committee of Inquiry issuing temporary residence permits to foreigners as well as the Legal Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu.

In 2007–2011, Anvelt was the security adviser of the Commander of the Defence Forces.

In 2004–2006, Anvelt worked as the director of the Police College.

In 2001–2003, Andres Anvelt was the chief of the Central Criminal Police. Before that, he worked for several years in Estonian Police.

Born on September 30, 1969, in Tallinn, Anvelt has graduated from Tallinn Secondary School No. 21 and Tallinn Militia Special Secondary School. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Tartu and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Tallinn University of Technology. He has also completed the law enforcement management training at the FBI Academy in the United States of America.
